How to Use Unity Layout to Increase Your Productivity
Objective: The objective of this blog post is to suggest an alternative layout to the default one in Unity that will smooth your workflow and boost productivity.
The main issue with the default layout is the constant need to switch between the Scene view and Game view which can make your workflow feel a bit clunky.
Fortunately, Unity allows customization of almost every panel, enabling you to drag and snap them to new locations that better suit your needs. I would like to recommend a professional layout that can enhance your productivity.
To begin, navigate to the top right corner of the editor and click on the Default dropdown list, then select the Tall layout. This will increase the size of the Scene view.
Next, drag the Game view and position it below the Scene view. You can adjust the height and width of each panel by hovering over their borders and dragging them. Personally, I will position the Game view halfway up to align with the Project panel. This is what the layout currently looks like:
As you can see, the layout already appears better, and any object movements made in the Scene view will be immediately reflected in the Game view in real time.
Now, let’s adjust the Project panel. Click on the three-dot icon in the top right corner and select the One Column Layout option. This will convert the current view to a list view, making it easier to access folders.
This is our final layout:
Finally, you can save this layout for future projects by navigating to the dropdown list in the top right corner of the editor and selecting Save Layout…
A small window will appear where you can name your layout and click Save. Voilà! You have created a professional layout that can be used for all of your projects.
